About Trombone Day
Trombone Day is back! This year will mark the rebuilding of this wonderful day of learning and fellowship. We start with the focus on our high school players, but there will be enough content for the older trombonist to have an rewarding experience. To insure this gathering will continue to grow and become the premier trombone event of the west coast, Bones West has stepped forward partner with the CSUF Music Department.
The day will be shorter and simpler than in years past, starting at Noon and finishing by 6 pm. It will feature a High School Trombone Quartet Contest and a Quartet Master Class by Bill Booth. There will be an exhibit hall with trombones and trombone gear. The day will conclude with a concert including the two contest-winning quartets, the CSUF Trombones and Bones West. Mr. Booth will be the featured soloist with Bones West.

The Adult Trombone Day Fee is $20.00, discounts available for students, seniors and military.

High School Quartet Competition
One of the highlights of Trombone Day this year is the high school trombone quartet contest. Quartets will compete in a “Trombone Idol” style venue to be judged by a panel of professional trombonists and educators. All quartet members must be high school students participating in their school’s music program. Quartets will compete in two divisions, one for quartets with all members from the same school and one for quartets with members from different schools.
The contest will consist of an onstage performance of two pieces. The music for the competition will have one required piece, O Magnum Mysterium, (see link below) and one piece of their choice that is approximately three minutes in length. The panel will comment on the performance of each quartet and choose a winner from each division. The winning quartets will be featured at the 4:30 concert performing their chosen pieces. All quartets will join Bones West and the CSUF Trombones to close the concert.

Featured Soloist and Clinician, Bill Booth
Bill performs in most areas of L.A.’s music industry. His recording credits include a thousand motion pictures (including Jurassic Park, The Green Lantern, Cars, Avatar, TinTin & War Horse), numerous phonograph records, television shows and jingles. He is principal trombone in the Los Angeles Opera Company, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and the Pasadena Symphony. He has frequent appearances with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and has a solo CD, Balancing Act, on Crystal records. He is on the music faculty at UC Santa Barbara.
Originally from Sedalia, Missouri, Bill holds a B.M.E. from the University of Kansas, a Masters of Music from Catholic University and an M.B.A from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He played the jazz chair with the USAF Airmen of Note and subsequently moved to Las Vegas where he worked in show orchestras before moving to Los Angeles.
